Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY 'SECULAR'?
The word secular means 'not religious.' Much like a church, we come together as a group to build our community, contribute to our city, and work on our own growth as individuals. However, as a secular community, we come together around our shared humanity rather than coming together around a certain belief.
ARE RELIGIOUS OR SPIRITUAL PEOPLE EXCLUDED?
Absolutely not! Everyone is welcome to come hang out with us, join our conversations, and indulge in our community. We only ask that if you do identify with a religion, you leave it at the door. If that doesn't sound like something you can do, we encourage you to seek out another community that better fits your needs.
DO YOU EVANGELIZE OR CONVERT PEOPLE?
Nope. You do you, boo.
ARE YOU A CULT?
Nope. We prioritize accountability, community input, and personal choices. We respect you for who you are.
ARE YOU POLITICAL?
That's a tough question because the personal is political, and some may see our existence as political in and of itself. This is a deeply philosophical question that we could talk about (and probably will) at length. In short, however, we will never tell you who to vote for or give organizational money to a political candidate.
WHEN & WHERE DO YOU MEET?
We don't have a space to call our own (yet), so for now you can find us meeting up in public spaces and events around the city of Lexington. We post our gatherings to the Calendar, and you can sign up to receive invites right to your inbox!
Y'ALL TALK ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH A LOT, ARE YOU THERAPISTS?
Definitely not. We talk about mental health a lot because we are all on our own journeys and we find benefit in sharing our experiences. Talking destigmatizes, and the more we can uplift mental health access, the better we will all be. That being said, we are not therapists, and nothing we say should be interpreted as such.
